A 65-year-old Herzliya resident was arrested Tuesday after spitting at Polish Ambassador to Israel Marek Magierowski, who was sitting in his car near the Polish embassy in Tel Aviv.

Police arriving at the scene located the suspect and arrested him.

On Wednesday, the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court released the suspect to house arrest.

According to the suspect, the guards in the area did not let him enter the embassy and called him a derogatory name. He also said he did not know that his victim was an ambassador at the time of the incident.

The Foreign Ministry said "the matter is under police investigation, and the Foreign Ministry expresses full solidarity with the Polish ambassador and shock at the incident."
