A 55-year-old woman was killed on Wednesday evening in a collision between two vehicles on Route 4613 near the Bareket junction in central Israel.

Another man, about 70 years of age, was seriously injured in the accident. He was evacuated to the Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva.

Koby Buskila, a Magen David Adom paramedic who arrived at the scene, said that "a 55-year-old woman was trapped in the driver's seat, unconscious with serious injuries. In the course of the complex rescue operations we provided her with medical treatment, but her injury was very serious and after resuscitation efforts she was pronounced dead."

"The driver of the second vehicle, a 70-year-old man, was rescued from his vehicle in serious condition and evacuated to Beilinson Hospital while undergoing life-saving medical treatment," Buskila added.

An initial investigation of the accident revealed that one of the vehicles had deviated from its path and crashed into a second vehicle in the opposite lane.
