The military court in Judea sentenced the terrorist who murdered Tuvia Yanai Weissman in an attack at the Rami Levy supermarket in Sha'ar Binyamin to 35 years in prison on Sunday.

The terrorist was also required to pay NIS 1 million ($260,000) to the Weissman family as well as NIS 250,000 ($66,250) to another victim who was wounded during the attack.

The court refrained from imposing the life sentence on the murderer due to the fact that he is a minor.

The Weissman family reacted angrily to the verdict and demanded that the terrorist receive a life sentence in order to deter further attacks.

Other terrorists have received life sentences despite being minors, including the murderer of Dafna Meir.

Attorney Haim Bleicher of the Honenu legal organization, which is representing the family, stated: "Today, a minor, one of the murderers of Yanai Weissman, was sentenced. The murderer received 35 years, and he has not received a life sentence, which for us is a very serious matter. The minor was convicted of murder, as part of a terror campaign. On the witness stand he said that he is a Hamas fighter. It is inconceivable that such a terrorist would not receive life imprisonment, even if he is a minor."

"Failure to give a life sentence to such a terrorist is an encouragement to terror. The family asked the Military Advocate General to appeal the verdict, demanding that he be sentenced to life imprisonment as he deserves," Bleicher added.

In February 2016, two terrorists entered the Rami Levy supermarket in Sha'ar Binyamin and stabbed Weissman, 21, and another victim, age 36. The terrorists, who were identified as being 14-years-old at the time, were apprehended by civilians at the scene. Weissman later succumbed to his injuries.
