Israel's President congratulates new Jewish Agency chairman

Rivlin tweets blessing to Herzog: 'As MK, minister, opposition chairman, Buji has been at heart of Israeli democracy for most of his life.'

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin today congratulated Knesset Member Yitzhak Herzog on, the unanimous recommendation of the Jewish Agency's appointments committee to elect MK Yitzhak Herzog (Zionist Union) to head the agency. "I would like to congratulate Yitzhak Herzog on his election to Jewish Agency Chairman," Rivlin twote. "As a member of the Knesset, as a minister, and opposition chairman, Buji has been active in the heart of Israeli democracy for most of his life, serving the Israeli people as he follows in his father's and grandfather's footsteps.

"As State President I stand with the Jewish Agency in full readiness and sincere desire to assist the organization's activities to protect and strengthen relations between the State of Israel and the Jewish people.

"I would also like to thank the outgoing Chairman of the Jewish Agency, my friend Natan Sharansky. Natan is an inter-generational hero in the eyes of every Jew in the world and we cannot really thank him enough for everything he has done for the Jewish people and the State of Israel so far," wrote Rivlin.
