US President Donald Trump acknowledged that he spoke with North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un, but then backtracked and said talks took place "on very high levels."

The exchange was caught on video as Trump and his wife Melania walked with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie Abe. When pressed for an answer to whether Trump himself had spoken to Kim, Trump said, "Yes. Yes."

Afterwards, Trump said, "I look forward to meeting with Kim Jong-un, and hopefully that will be a success."

"We've also started talking to North Korea directly. We have had direct talks at very high levels, extremely high levels."

Trump also said that a site for his meeting with Kim has not yet been chosen, but the two are discussing five different possibilities.

Meanwhile, the White House denied that Trump had spoken directly with Kim.
