A two-year-old girl was killed and three people injured after a fire broke out in an apartment building in the southern Israeli city of Beer Sheva Sunday.
The fire was sparked in a residential building on David Elazar Street in Beer Sheva Sunday.
Emergency first responders from MDA were called to the scene, along with fire and rescue teams.
Rescue teams found a two-year-old girl unconscious in the apartment who suffered critical injuries in the fire. The girl was treated at the scene before being evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in critical condition.
After her arrival at Soroka, hospital officials were forced to declare the girl's death.
Two other children and a woman roughly 30 years of age were also injured in the fire.
A boy roughly four years of age was also rescued from the apartment, after firefighters found the boy hiding under his bed. The child was treated at the scene, then evacuated to the hospital in serious condition.
In addition, a 10-year-old girl suffered moderate injuries from smoke inhalation and contusions after she jumped from a balcony to escape the fire.
Both the 10-year-old girl and the woman are listed in moderate and stable condition.
“On my way to the scene of the fire, I saw heavy smoke and flames coming out of the apartment,” said senior MDA paramedic Yaron Barel.
“At the entrance to the building I saw a woman, roughly 30 years of age, and a 10-year-old girl, both of whom were fully conscious, with signs of smoke inhalation. The girl also had bruises on her face, the result of a fall while escaping from the fire.”
“The woman was screaming the entire time that her baby was still in the apartment. Fire and rescue teams went into the burning apartment brought out an unconscious 3-year-old child who had no pulse and was not breathing. We provided emergency first aid at the scene, and performing resuscitation techniques while she was in critical condition.”
