Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked (Jewish Home) stated that she had succeeded in her campaign to reform the Supreme Court and restore the balance of power between the different branches of government.

"I wanted to diversify the system and I think that in this sense, after three years, together with all the members of the committee, we have certainly met the task of making a change in the judicial system by appointing judges," Shaked said at the Yediot Ahronot conference Sunday.

According to Shaked, the Supreme Court today is "a more diverse, more conservative court. I came across the path of opportunity that I think no justice minister has had before. It will actually be responsible for the appointment of 40% of the Supreme Court. Six judges out of 15. We certainly put emphasis on variety and diversity."

Shaked was also asked about the plan for the expulsion of illegal infiltrators from Israel, and said that most of them were not refugees but migrant workers. "The State of Israel can not be a solution to the problem of unemployment in the African continent, and we will not accept anyone who is a migrant worker.

"The refugees do receive their status [as refugees]. About 1,000 people from Darfur have received [refugee] status because they came from there, but the vast majority that came from Eritrea and Sudan are migrant workers, "emphasized the Minister of Justice.
