The man charged with murder for Wednesday's mass shooting at a Florida school that left 17 dead was reportedly obsessed with firearms and other weapons.

According to the New York Post, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz's Instagram account was filled with pictures of his assortment of knives and firearms, including captions mocking Muslims. In one post, Cruz uploaded a picture of a shotgun and wrote that he "plans on getting this but I need more information on it. If someone could give advice on how much I’m spending and background checks please to god let me know".

In another, he wrote that shooting is "group therapy. Sometimes it really [expletive] works."

Those who knew Cruz said that the shooter "was obsessed" with firearms. "Everything he posts is about weapons,” one told ABC. "It’s sick."

According to Buzzfeed, Cruz had been reported to the FBI in September after writing online that "I am going to be a school shooter."

"They came to my office the next morning and asked me if I knew anything about the person," said Ben Bennight, who first reported him to the FBI. "They took a copy of the screenshot and that was the last I heard from them."
