Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara landed this morning in the state of Gujarat in India.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted them and held a very moving and impressive reception in the city of Ahmedabad.

Tens of thousands of residents stood in the streets waving Israeli and Indian flags. Hundreds of Hebrew signs were hung, with pictures of the prime ministers and the words "Welcome to Ahmedabad." In addition, spectacular performances were held in the streets with traditional dances and special orchestras.

Foreign Ministry director Yuval Rotem said "This is an unprecedented reception. Throughout my years in the Foreign Ministry, I've never seen such an impressive and special reception with such a large number of participants. Residents went out to the streets to respect and applaud the prime ministers and the relations between the two countries."

Netanyahu and his wife Sara, accompanied by Indian Prime Minister Modi, visited Ghandi's home, Ashram Sabarmati. The Israeli Prime Minister and his wife sprinkled petals on the statue of Gandhi, the believer in "passive disobedience" who is considered the father of the Indian nation.

Gujarat is of great importance in the history of India and Prime Minister Modi served as head of the State of Gujarat for many years.
