Larisa Trembovler Amir on Saturday night said they had requested retrial for her husband Yigal Amir.

Yigal Amir assassinated former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin on November 4, 1995.

"I would like to inform everyone that we have recently appointed a team to prepare and submit a request for a retrial for Yigal Amir," Trembolver wrote on Facebook.

"This process is being done with the permission of Yigal Amir. Media issues will be handled by a Swiss company, and no details will be given to the Israeli media."

Zionist Union MK Itzik Shmuli said, "Yigal Amir is a lowly murderer and deserves to die in jail. Not only did he shoot the Prime Minister in the back, he shot the entire country in the back. This piece of rot should remain deep in jail. He should not be exposed to the public again."

In November 2016, Larisa said the murder was not intended to bring about a change in power. Instead, Yigal killed Rabin in order to stop the peace process, since he "believed that it was costing many lives and would cost countless more. He did not want the Likud or any other party to take power. He just wanted the bloodshed to end."
