Culture Minister Miri Regev (Likud) lambasted the Zionist Union party, which decided not to attend the state ceremony taking place tomorrow, Wednesday, in Gush Etzion to mark 50 years of renewed building in Judea and Samaria.

At the start of the government cabinet meeting, Regev emphasized that “This is an official ceremony of the State of Israel to mark 50 years of settlement in Judea and Samaria, the Jordan Valley and the Golan Heights.”

“I am sure that Golda [Meir], [Yigal] Alon, and [Yitzhak] Rabin are turning in their graves in their graves hearing the Zionist Union. It is a complete disgrace. The Zionist Union doesn’t understand that the one who founded Kiryat Arba was Yigal Alon, all of the infrastructure in Judea and Samaria was established by leaders of Mapai.”

Regev rejected claims that Avi Gabai and Isaac Herzog would not attend the event because they had not been invited to speak.

“At a state ceremony, the chairman of the opposition doesn’t speak, “ she said, noting that, according to protocol “only the prime minister and president speak, and if the president is not present, then the Knesset speaker does. If they’re not coming because they’re not speaking, then either they’re in kindergarten or they think we’re playing tag.”

“This is a state event, and the minute the Zionist Union boycotts it, this shows that the Zionist Union has lost its way and has not been ZIonist for a long time,” Regev asserted.
