צפו: קונצרט חזנות בבית כנסת הגדול

On Tuesday night, a special concert was held in Tel Aviv's Great Synagogue, in honor of the beginning of "selichot" (prayers said for a period of time prior to Rosh Hashana - the Jewish New Year).

Sephardic Jews begin saying selichot on the first day of Elul (the month preceding Rosh Hashana), while Ashkenazi Jews say selichot only during the last week before Rosh Hashana.

The evening began with speeches from the synagogue's rabbi, former Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau; synagogue president Shlomo Pikbo; and local Rabbi Avi Zarki.

Participating in the event were cantors Yisrael (Israel) Rand, Shimon Schwartz, Haim Adler, Berel Tzuker, David Weinbach, Tzvi Greenheim, Tzudik Greenwald, and others.
