An Israel Police officer on Wednesday morning noticed a pull trailer driving on the wrong side of Route 4 (Israel's coastal highway), near the Raveh Junction.
"I couldn't believe my eyes," the officer said. "A truck opposite me was driving on the wrong side of the road. I've seen confused vehicles before, driving against traffic, but a truck with a pull trailer? I've never seen it before."
"I don't want to think what would have happened if a private car had been driving opposite this truck on Route 4; the average driving speed over here is 80-90 kilometers (49.7-55.9 miles) per hour."
Since there is a physical barrier between the two sides of the road, the police officer stopped all traffic on the highway and helped the driver make a u-turn and begin driving in the proper direction.
The driver, a Jerusalem Arab in his fifties, said he got confused while attempting to reach Jerusalem.
However, the driver has committed over 100 traffic offenses. Previously, he receive a fine and a court summons for reckless driving.
The truck was taken off the road after it was found to have severe safety deficiencies.
"The fact that this truck, driving on the wrong side of the road, was spotted so early definitely prevented an event which could have ended in tragedy," Israel Police said.
