Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Thursday morning participated in a cornerstone-laying ceremony for a new neighborhood in Beitar Illit.

Beitar Illit is a haredi town in Gush Etzion, whose mayor is working for it to receive status as a priority town.

In his speech, Netanyahu spoke about his government's policy on Judea and Samaria.

"We work vigorously to settle every area of Israel," Netanyahu said. "My Chief of Staff visited Netiv Ha'avot this morning, in order to find a solution which will legally allow us to minimize damages."

"Yesterday, we gathered all the necessary parties to renew the founding of a new town, Amichai, for Amona's expellees. They deserve it.

"No government has done more for settlement than mine."

The Supreme Court in December 2016 ordered the destruction of Elazar's Netiv Ha'avot neighborhood, after an unclaimed strip of land was found to run through it.
