The island country of Cape Verde announced on Wednesday that it will no longer be voting against Israel in the United Nations.

The decision came following a meeting between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Cape Verde’s President Jorge Carlos Fonseca, who then instructed his envoy at the UN that the island in West Africa would no longer be voting against Israel.

Netanyahu welcomed the decision on Wednesday evening.

“Cape Verde has announced that from now on it will no longer vote against Israel at the United Nations,” he wrote on Facebook.

“The decision was made following my meeting with the president of Cape Verde, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, which took place two months ago at the summit of ECOWAS, the economic union of West African countries.”

“I welcome the decision, which came about as a result of Israel's intensive diplomatic efforts in Africa,” said Netanyahu.

Netanyahu last year made an historic trip to Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, and Ethiopia, the first visit to Africa by a sitting Israeli Prime Minister in decades, with the goal of improving relations with these countries as well as developing economic ties.

The UN and its various institutions are notorious for their anti-Israel bias, continuously singling out Israel for criticism, while ignoring other conflicts in the region, such as the ongoing bloody civil war in Syria.

The body's former Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, publicly admitted that the UN has an anti-Israel bias, but he chose to admit this in the final days of his term.
