A brushfire broke out on the edge of the town of Beit El north of Jerusalem Sunday afternoon, injuring several residents and forcing evacuations of more than a dozen homes.

The fire began just beyond the town’s northwestern edge.

After the blaze expanded and began encroaching on a line of houses in Beit El, residents of 15 homes were forced to evacuate.

Four residents on the northwestern edge of town close to the fire suffered from smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene. All four were listed in light condition.

A police spokesperson reported that firefighting units had the fire partially contained.

Israel is suffering a dry heat wave, but it is not yet certain what caused the blaze.
