British police raided a number of apartments in east London Sunday, following a spate of attacks in the capital that left 7 dead and nearly 50 wounded Saturday night.

Twelve suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the combination car ramming and stabbing attacks, the BBC reported Sunday afternoon.

During the attacks, which took place on London Bridge just after 10:00 p.m. Saturday, a van rammed into a number of pedestrians injuring dozens. Three men then exited the vehicle and proceeded to stab passersby before police intervened and gunned down the assailants.

Police raided multiple apartments in Barking, The Sun reported, including a flat owned by one of the three attackers shot dead by police Saturday night.

Witnesses say explosions were heard during the raids, as special-weapons police units secured the buildings.

"Officers from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command have this morning, Sunday 4 June, arrested 12 people in Barking, east London, in connection with last night's incidents in London Bridge and the Borough Market area,” a police spokesperson said. “Searches of a number of addresses in Barking are continuing.”
