Tens of thousands of people participated in the traditional March of the Flags from Jerusalem's Great Synagogue to the Western Wall Wednesday evening. At the close of the event, estimates rose to 100,000 participants, most of them young adults

The march began with singing and dancing on Ki.ng George St. in the city center.

Police blocked off the roads along the route of the march towards the Old City of Jerusalem.

Arabs and left-wing activists demonstrated against the celebration near the Damascus Gate. Police and security forces stood between the marchers and the protesters.

The march celebrated the 50th anniversary of the liberation and reunification of Jerusalem during the Six Day War in 1967, as well as the return of the Jewish people to their holy sites in the Old City and Judea and Samaria after being banned from the holiest sites in Judaism while the city and the land were under Jordanian occupation from 1948-1967.
