Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat welcomed US President Donald Trump to Israel's capital in an interview with Arutz Sheva Monday, and called on Trump to fulfill his campaign pledge to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
"My recommendation [to President Trump] is: move the embassy sooner rather than later," Barkat said.
"Moving the embassy is a commitment which he made to his own people, but he made it because everyone understands that if anything, it will move many other embassies to Jerusalem, and it will send a very clear message to the Palestinians that Jerusalem is the capital of the Jewish people. They have to recognize us the same way that the world recognizes the city of Jerusalem," he asserted.
"Doing that faster will bring peace faster. Delaying it will delay the peace process. Hopefully the president will understand that."
