Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman, the spiritual leader of the Lithuanian haredi community in Israel, was hospitalized with pneumonia Sunday.

Associates of the 103 year old rabbi said that he had been suffering from bouts of weakness over the past few days. After doctors came to his home in Bnei Brak to conduct a series of tests he was taken to the Mayanei Hayeshua (literally, spring of salvation) hospital, a religious medical center.

Following the death of Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv in 2012, Rabbi Shteinman has been widely regarded as the worldwide Lithuanian Gadol Hador, the Torah Leader of the Generation.

Rabbi Shteinman fasted the entirety of the 25 hour Yom Kippur fast this past October despite his advanced age. He has fasted every Yom Kippur for the past 90 years.
