The Mayor of the city of Netanya, Miriam Fireberg, was remanded this afternoon (Wednesday) under suspicion of receiving bribes.

Police will request to extend her arrest in court.

This morning, police and tax authorities took in for questioning four suspects tied to the same incidents of bribery and fraud pertaining to Netanya real estate. The four will be brought before the magistrates court of Rishon Letzion later today to determine whether their arrests will be extended.

Attorney Nati Samhuni, representing Fireberg, said: “Ms. Fireberg had been the Mayor of Netanya for some 18 years, and has served in the city municipality in various capacities for four decades. She always acted faithfully and honestly, and no stain ever stuck to her conduct. She is sure that this time, as well, she will be vindicated.

“Ms. Fireberg respects the law enforcement authorities, and she will participate with investigators to bring the truth to light,” Samhuni said.

The arrests today come in the wake of four related arrests yesterday, which included the arrest of Fireberg’s son Tzafrir. His arrest was extended by five days.
