Canadian terror suspect Aaron Driver was a "soldier" of the Islamic State (ISIS) jihadist group, the Amaq news agency affiliated with the organization said Thursday, according to Reuters.

Driver was killed during a Canadian police raid at his home in Strathroy, Ontario on Wednesday.

"The executor of the attack targeting police in Canada was a soldier of the Islamic State and carried out the operation in response to calls to target coalition countries," Amaq said, according to Reuters.

Police in Ontario said Driver was in the final stages of planning an attack on a major urban center when they raided his home and killed him.

Canada has been targeted by terrorism before. In March, a Muslim man stabbed soldiers at a Toronto military recruitment center in March, and later claimed under interrogation that “Allah” told him to carry out the attack.

In October of 2014, a terrorist shot and killed a soldier near the Canadian parliament in Ottawa.

That attack came a week after a 25-year-old who converted to Islam rammed his car into two soldiers in the Quebec town of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and was shot dead by police. One of the soldiers later died.
