A 19-year-old soldier was stabbed by an Arab assailant in Tel Aviv on Monday and left lightly to moderately wounded, in what police have indicated was a terrorist attack.

Police were able to hunt down his attacker a short time later, and they identified that an initial investigation revealed the stabber is a 19-year-old Arab resident of Salfit in Samaria. He was transferred for investigation.

"The background to the incident apparently is nationalistic," said the police spokesperson, in an admission that the attack was likely terrorist in nature.

A later police statement revealed the terrorist attacked with a screwdriver, before civilians chased him down and caught him, handing the stabber over to the police.

The stabbing took place at Yigal Alon Street on the corner of Nahalat Yitzhak Street in the coastal city.

Magen David Adom (MDA) medics provided the victim with medical treatment before evacuating him to Ichilov Hospital with stab wounds to his upper body.

The hospital reports he suffered from light cuts to the face and could be released home within a short time.

MDA paramedic Livnat Burstein who treated the victim said, "when we arrived at the site we saw a youth around 19-years-old sitting fully conscious and suffering from stab wounds to his upper body."

"He was calm and communicated with us. We gave him quick medical treatment on the ground and evacuated him to the hospital with his condition classified light and stable," she said.
