U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan said on Tuesday that American lawmakers would continue to press for new sanctions against Iran, Reuters reported.

Ryan said those efforts to impose sanctions on the Islamic Republic would continue "until the regime ends its violent, provocative behavior against the U.S. and our allies."

He added that Iran's latest reported missile test violated international law.

Some of the sanctions that were imposed on Iran over its nuclear program were recently lifted after an agreement with the West was implemented, but there are still sanctions on the country over its ballistic missile program.

On October 10, Iran conducted ballistic missile test which elicited strong condemnation from members of the UN Security Council. A month later, it tested another ballistic missile, and an American official said other undeclared tests occurred earlier than that.

The United States responded with new sanctions on 11 entities and individuals connected to the Iranian missile program, a move which did not sit well with Iran, where officials have stressed that Iran would not only stop its missile program because of the American sanctions, it would in fact intensify the program.
