Yisrael Beytenu chairman and former Foreign Minister MK Avigdor Liberman criticized the Prime Minister and several Likud ministers working to change the draft law to suit the haredi community on Monday, and argued that these actions are contrary to the values of Zionism.

"I do not understand how the Likud acts against the values of Zionism," he said, referring to the expected change in the existing draft law. "The Zionists were secular, everyone but the haredi parties, and Likud succumbs [to them] again and again."

Liberman also noted that Likud ministers have an usual voice in the haredi media, which normally declines from broadcasting interviews from non-haredi, or non-religious, public figures.

"They interview there and give over messages they do not give to the secular media," he accused. "Sometimes it seems they do not have primaries but instead are the face of the leadership of the Council of Torah Sages."

Yisrael Beytenu is the only alternative, he noted, as "the only secular right-wing party."

"We are not against tradition, not against religion, but we cannot tolerate mercenariness in the Jewish religion."

With regard to the expected meeting between Netanyahu and US President Barack Obama, he wished success to the Prime Minister, and added that he hoped the Israeli leader would uphold Israel's security needs in light of several compensatory promises Washington made after the Iran nuclear deal was forged in July.
