An Arab driver on Saturday night tried to run over a group of soldiers who were standing at the Hakvasim junction on Mount Hevron.

One of the soldiers was lightly injured in his foot. The soldiers fired back at the vehicle and hit one of its back lights. The driver continued driving towards Hevron.

Security forces in large numbers were deployed in the area, trying to locate the driver.

Terrorism has continued in Judea and Samaria and, earlier this week, police presence along Route 443 and the surrounding area was heightened, after a special assessment of the security situation there between top-ranking officers of the IDF, Israel Police, and Border Police.

Earlier this month, a 26 year-old Israeli man was injured after an Arab terrorist stabbed him at a gas station along the highway, in Beit Horon.

Local residents along Route 443 have expressed concerns on a daily basis about their safety, the source added, and many motorists have chosen to take the nearby Route 1 highway between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem instead to avoid security risks. This, despite frequent traffic jams and renovation work on Route 1.

On Monday, it was cleared for publication that a joint security operation has broken up a terrorist cell targeting Israeli motorists in the Samaria region.

Israel Police, the IDF and the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) arrested the members of the terrorist cell, which was based in the village of Beita, near Shechem (Nablus), in a joint raid.

Among other attacks, the terrorists are believed to be behind the June 14 firebombing of an Israel car traveling along Route 60. In that attack, the attackers hurled a firebomb from their moving vehicle, shortly after the end of Shabbat.
