A report Sunday said that Mahmoud Abbas was planning to resign his post as Palestinian Authority president within the next two months. The report on Israel's Channel One said that the PA chief was leaving because of health issues, specifically due to “fatigue.”

Abbas, who is 80, has already notified the PLO central committee of his decision, the report said. He recently met with chief PA negotiator Saeb Eerekat, who is seen as his likely successor.

With that, it should be noted that Abbas has “threatened” to resign numerous times in the past, only to change his mind and remain on the job. However, sources said that this time the PA chief may really be ready to retire, due to his advanced age.
