Anti-Semitism has been rampant in Holland, but a new incident has taken the Jew hatred to new levels as Dutch soccer fans chanted anti-Semitic slogans during a match on Sunday, calling for Jews to be burned and sent to gas chambers.

Dutch police have launched an investigation, after video footage captured fans belting out the anti-Semitic slurs and clapping during FC Utrecht's 1-1 draw with Ajax, reports The Independent.

Dutch media revealed the chants included "Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the gas," and a longer one filmed by someone in the stands and viewable below, in which the fans roared "my father was in the commandos, my mother was in the (Nazi) SS, together they burned Jews, because Jews burn the best."

In response, the KNVB Dutch soccer association denounced the chants as "reprehensible and disgusting," noting that it has launched its own investigation into the incident.

Dutch justice minister Ard van der Steur also called the chants "abhorrent," and said such incidents have no place in society during a Dutch parliament session.

Local daily Het Parool indicated the "SS" chant came from the section of hardcore FC Utrecht fans seated in a part of the Galgenwaard Stadium referred to as the Bunnikside.

The paper published a statement by the soccer club in which it apologized and said it was aiding investigations, adding "of course we will now do everything to trace these people and take appropriate action...stadium bans could be a part of this."

It also called punishment "not the only solution," saying anti-Semitism in Dutch soccer must be addressed in a wider scope.

Ajax reportedly has regularly been targeted by anti-Semitic chants because of the historical presence of Jews in Amsterdam.
