Belgian media reports that a hareidi Jew was stabbed in the throat in Antwerp Saturday morning. He is in serious condition but there is no immediate fear for his life.

Belgian police reportedly arrested a suspect in the stabbing but has not yet disclosed information on whether the motive is terrorist, anti-Semitic or both.

According to the European Jewish Congress, the attacker “ran towards two hassidim who were on their way to the synagogue, stabbed one of them in the throat and got away."

The injured man was taken to the hospital. Said EJC. “Police are currently investigating the case, local security team is controlling the situation and protecting the neighborhood," it added.

On May 24, a gunman opened fire in Brussels' Jewish Museum, killing an Israeli couple, a French woman and a Belgian man. French national Mehdi Nemmouche was arrested on suspicion of carrying out the attack.
