Police Commissioner General Yohanan Danino assessed the situation in Jerusalem with the police command staff on Thursday, following the attack in Jerusalem yesterday.

Chaya Zisel Braun, a 3-month-old baby, was killed in the attack. Several other people standing by the light rail station were injured.

Danino praised the actions of the policeman who chased after the terrorist as he attempting to flee on foot, and shot him. Attacker Abdelrahman Shaludeh was injured and died several hours later in hospital.

"The rapid and determined action of the Jerusalem District police officer, which led to quick conclusion of the event was admirable," Danino said, adding that he hoped others would follow his example.

The Commissioner added that "the increase of police and security forces in the Jerusalem region will continue as long as necessary in order to restore a sense of security to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem."

Danino stressed that "this is a national mission and the Israeli Police will work with all security agencies and law enforcement authorities to ensure and operational and investigative front against all violators of law and order."

The Commissioner instructed the command staff "to act and communicate with all sectors to prevent incitement and show determination against extremists who want to stir up the atmosphere."

He also ordered the Jerusalem district police "to work with the prosecutor's office to demand stricter punishment, including harsher punishments for rock throwers and their immediate families."
