A British politician has exploited the upcoming Holocaust Memorial Day to attack Israel, saying the Jewish state has “evolved into a racist oppressor.”

Lee Jasper of the Respect Party posted the egregious comments to his Facebook Page, The Jewish Chronicle reported.

“We are asked to remember that which Israel has forgotten, that religious & racial hatred is a sin against God,” wrote Jasper on his page, as he incorrectly noted the date of Holocaust Memorial Day.

“Israel has failed to learn the lessons of its own tragic history having evolved into a racist oppressor,” he added, tagging the comment with the word “apartheid.”

Jasper, a former equalities adviser to former London Mayor Ken Livingstone, had also claimed in 2005 that attacks on Jews were better "monitored" than those on other minority groups.

Jasper’s comments follow comments made in October by another Respect party activist who questioned whether Hitler was “the bad guy.”

Founded in 2004, Respect is a socialist political party active in England and Wales.

International Holocaust Memorial Day is commemorated on January 27, at which time people from all walks of life and from countries across the globe will remember all those who perished at the hands of the Nazi regime.
