The giant eBay website is strengthening its operations in Israel, and its CEO will make his first-ever business visit to the Jewish state in September, when he will deliver a keynote address at a conference.

John Donahue, head of eBay, will address the HTIA 2012 conference of Israel Advanced Technology Industries in Jerusalem, Globes reported.

eBay said Donahue will be promoting its operations in Israel and will highlight how the company’s centers in Netanya and Tel Aviv support eBay worldwide.

The company invested heavily in Israel seven years ago with the purchase of the Israeli company Shoppng.com, for which it paid $634 million.

eBay also bought the Gifts Project Israeli start-up last September and used it as a base for its Tel Aviv center.

Globes said that Donahue also visit the PayPal center in Israel, set up after the company bought out Fraud Science four years ago.

“Israel is one of our industry’s leading hubs for technology innovation and talent. eBay Inc.’s investments in Israel have made significant contributions to the company’s global vision in commerce and payments, and I look forward to meeting Israeli startups, strategic partners and our local employees," Donahue said.
