Unconfirmed reports on numerous Egyptian websites claiming that former President Hosni Mubarak was dead were firmly denied Sunday morning by the country's Interior Ministry.

A report was listed on the official web site of Egypt's state broadcasting company, quoting reports on other web sites and in social media, but the site had taken the trouble to stress the report was unconfirmed.

On Sunday morning, Egypt's Al Fajr newspaper published a denial of reports that Mubarak had died, quoting an Egyptian Interior Ministry official.

In recent days Mubarak has suffered severe depression and at least one mild heart attack after having arrived at Tora Prison.

He was resuscitated a number of times and according to at least one report doctors were forced to intubate and maintain the former president on a respirator at least five times.

His son Gamal, also incarcerated at Tora Prison, was moved to a building closer to the jail's intensive care unit, in order to be  closer to his father, according to last week's reports.
