Eight members of the same family - parents and six of their children - were killed on Monday night, after a vehicle overturned and caught fire in the city of Tiberias.

Rescue forces who arrived on the scene treated a seven-year-old girl who suffered light injuries and took her for treatment at the Poriya Hospital in Tiberias. It is believed the girl fell out through the car window from the impact of the crash and thus did not get caught in the flames.

Gilad Hanun of the Ichud Hatzalah rescue organization’s Tiberias branch told Arutz Sheva, “When we reached the scene of the accident we saw a girl near the vehicle with injuries and immediately gave her initial treatment.”

He added, “Unfortunately the car was on fire and the other family members, including infants and children, perished. It was a shocking scene and we are now working to recover the bodies from the vehicle.”

According to a report on Channel 2 News, the driver of the vehicle contacted police right before the accident to report a problem with the brakes. Several police cars were sent to the scene, said the report, but they came too late and by the time they arrived, the vehicle had already flipped over.

It was also reported that the child who was rescued told the policeman who found her, “Mom and Dad and six brothers were in the car while it was on fire.”
