With two weeks left before the expiry date of the ten-month freeze on Jewish construction in Judea and Samaria, the nationalist campaign against the freeze is entering its home stretch. The Yesha Council, an unofficial federation of Judea and Samaria local authority chiefs, has kicked off Stage B in its media campaign against the continuation of the freeze past September 26.
In order to place maximum pressure on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, a website has been created at www.bonim.biz in which individual Likud Central Committee members are invited to join the campaign. A member who does so is featured on the site, along with a portrait photo and a short statement regarding the need to end the building freeze.
Likud Central Committee members hold the ultimate power to elect politicians to the Likud's Knesset list. A politician who loses the support of a sufficient amount of Central Committee members knows that his career is doomed.
The website is a continuation of an aggressive advertisement campaign in which Binyamin Netanyahu and Likud ministers are featured promising, in their own words, to end the freeze on the date originally set.
Yesha Council sources said that the ministers were only too happy to receive free publicity in the campaign, and that some even provided the campaigners with their photographs for use on the advertisements.
