The people of Israel welcomed more visitors in February 2010 than in any other month in the Jewish state's history.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, 222,000 tourists arrived in the Holy Land last month, 46% more than in February 2009. Of that number, 178,000 stayed at least one night. The rest stayed just for the day, including 13,200 who came aboard the Jewish State from cruise ships.

The first two months of 2010 showed a 53% increase in tourists from the corresponding period in 2009.

The Tourism Ministry is encouraging the building and expansion of hotels to increase accommodations available to Israel's increasing stream of guests.
