Against the backdrop of reported contacts between Gideon Sa'ar of the New Hope party and the Likud regarding the formation of a right-wing government, a source in the Likud told Israel Hayom that such a deal may encounter opposition from within the Likud.

Sources in the party estimate that because Sa'ar's hostility toward Netanyahu is so deep, he may allow his return to office only in exchange for having Sa'ar serve as rotation Prime Minister.

However, the Likud source also said that such a scenario was impossible and could provoke a revolt in the party, in light of the great opposition to Sa'ar.

According to the source, opposition to such a deal is expected first and foremost from MKs who see themselves as possible successors to Netanyahu when the day comes, such as MKs Nir Barkat and Yisrael Katz, but also from other MKs within the party.
