The first local council unit of the Border Police was inaugurated today at the Bnei Shimon Regional Council in the Negev. Border police officers will now be working alongside local council inspectors and will handle incidents in the rural sector.
In the first phase of the new project, Border Police and regional councils will establish six police units in the north and south, soon to be expanded to the regional councils of Ma'ale Yosef, Merom Galil, Lachish, and Sdot Negev, and later on to the entire country.
