Responding to the stated intentions of Finance Minister Avigdor Liberman to drastically slash budgets to the haredi community, Religious Zionism leader MK Bezalel Smotrich excoriated the government for allowing such persecution of the haredim.
"Not so long ago, Yamina MK Nir Orbach was boasting of his achievement in postponing the cuts to daycare subsidies, but now he has received a humiliating slap in the face from Liberman who has doubled and tripled the harm he plans for Torah scholars and the haredi public," Smotrich said. "But it won't happen, because the government won't survive that long."
Smotrich then turned to Liberman's fellow coalition members. "The fact that people like Shaked, Kahana, Sa'ar and Orbach sit in a government whose finance minister allows himself to put such decrees on the table shows how far they have lost their principles and how much Lieberman despises them," he said. "He knows they are captive to this government out of their desperation to survive politically, and therefore Liberman can act as he does time and time again."
