The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, congratulated Israel on its 74th Independence Day.
"Canada is proud to have been one of the first countries to officially recognize Israel in 1948. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1949, our two countries have shared more than 70 years as friends, allies and close partners, including in several international organizations. We will continue to oppose efforts to isolate Israel in international forums, and we will continue to withstand any attack on the values we share," he was quoted as saying.
Trudeau added that, "we have condemned the recent terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens in recent weeks. There is no room for hatred or terrorism of any kind. Today, we reiterate our commitment to a lasting, prosperous and valuable relationship between the people of Israel and Canada, as well as lasting peace in the Middle East."
