The Japanese coast guard reported that at least 10 people were killed when a tourist boat overturned near the tip of Cape Shiretoko on the Japanese island of Hokkaido.

Authorities announced last night that they lost contact with the vessel after it capsized at a 30-degree angle and began to sink, according to reports from crew members on board the ship.

Japan's public broadcaster NHK said authorities lost contact with the boat on Saturday after the crew reported the vessel was sinking.

According to the report, the vessel had 24 passengers and two crew members on board.
