Mikael Oscarsson, a member of the Swedish Parliament's Defense Committee, expressed support for Sweden's joining NATO in an interview with Israel Today.
"For the Christian Democrats, it's clear we cannot defend ourselves, we need protection and assistance from other countries and we need NATO's Article 5," Oscarsson explained, referring to the clause requiring the organization to protect a NATO member from military aggression.
He added: "Today we have cooperation with Finland, Norway, Denmark, USA, UK, and Germany of course. That's fine, but there is a huge difference between cooperation and Article 5. We have been close allies to NATO for years, similar to Ukraine, but you need guarantees before the fire starts. From February 24 it is a new world. Now it is clear to the Swedish people and to the Finnish people, where about 62% of the public support joining NATO. Before the war, it was 20%."
