    FDA: US approves emergency breathalyzer test for detecting COVID-19

    The FDA announced the approval of the first breathalyzer test to detect the COVID-19 virus.

    The InspectIR COVID-19 Breathalyzer identifies five organic compounds detecting the virus in a patients' breath, with test results returning in under three minutes, according to the organization.

    The agency said that a test study of 2,409 people, which included both people with and without symptoms, produced a 99.3% rate of correctly identified negative tests.

    According to the FDA, the test had a 91.2% of correctly identified positive test results.
