The eThekwini municipality in Durban received the heaviest downpour in 60 years, according to the AFP in the deadliest storm recorded in the country.
"By the evening of 13th of April, we have been informed that the death toll from the floods disaster in KZN (KwaZulu-Natal) province has risen to 306 people," said a spokeswoman for the provincial disaster management department.
The death toll has now reached 306, as homes collapsed, and roads and hills were washed away in the province.
