The King of Jordan, Abdullah II, proposed to President Herzog at their recent meeting in Amman that they establish a joint regional food bank, including wheat reserves, in the wake of the consequences of the war in Ukraine, as reported by Reshet Bet.
According to the report, the King's initiative in the field of food security, which is in its infancy, deals with the establishment of a common reserve of food and wheat products, which any country in distress could benefit from. Among others, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, and also PA Arabs were mentioned as taking part in the proposed initiative. The war in Ukraine is raising fears of food security, particularly for poorer countries that rely on cheap wheat imports, such as Egypt.
