Mayor of the Ukrainian city of Mariupol Vadym Boychenko said that the death toll in his city since the beginning of Russia's siege may have passed the 20,000 figure and that corpses were “carpeted through the streets..."

In an interview with the Associate Press, Boychenko accused Russia of using mobile crematoria to dispose of the victims and refusing to allow humanitarian transports as a way of covering up the attrocities.

Despite claiming that 5,000 had died during a March 21 interview, the mayor said it was impossible to identify all the dead corpses.

He also said some-120,000 remained in the bombed-out city with no food, water, or medical supplies.
