Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has pledged to the King of Jordan and to the US that he will prevent an escalation during Ramadan, but his representatives are spreading messages in the Arab street that incite the masses to violence, as reported by Israel Hayom.
According to the report, in contacts that have taken place in recent weeks between senior PA officials and Jordanian and American officials, in fear of an outbreak of hostilities, PA officials have pledged to calm the winds and prevent escalation during Ramadan, especially in Jerusalem. However, in the days before and during Ramadan, senior PA officials have issued a series of belligerent statements that contributed to the hostilities.
Amhad al-Rawidi, the advisor for Jerusalem affairs in Abu Mazen's office, warned on Tuesday that "the occupation and the settlers intend to carry out massacres" against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Arab residents of Jerusalem.
