Responding to a report that hundreds of "converts" are not being recognized as Jews in Israel, due to the objections of Chief Rabbi David Lau, Finance Minister Avigdor Liberman called for ultimate authority over conversions to be taken out of the hands of the Chief Rabbinate.
"This is not a Rabbinate, it is a business," Liberman wrote on Twitter. "The time has come to put an end to the monopoly over conversions."
