The Knesset plenum on Monday night passed the first reading of the Basic Law: Rights in Criminal Law.
Justice Minister Gideon Sa'ar commented on the law on his Twitter account and wrote: "For 30 years the Knesset has not enacted a Basic Law that fortifies the rights of its citizens. Tonight it happened. Just before 2:00 a.m., the Knesset approved in its first reading the Basic Law: Rights in Criminal Law that I brought before it. The right to a fair trial, the presumption of innocence, the right to representation and more - will soon be constitutional rights encoded in law."
