A new Russian law would see journalists jailed for up to 15 years for spreading "fake news."
The White House responded by denouncing the measures.
"We condemn the move by the Russian Federation Council to approve a law threatening prison sentences of up to 15 years for journalists," said spokesperson Emily Horne.
